Basic facts about volleyball:
- Volleyball was invented in the United States and had different forms and rules, such as playing with 16, 12, and 9 players before the modern 6-player format was established in the 1950s. It became an official Olympic sport in Tokyo in 1964.
- The International Volleyball Federation officially changed from “first-to-score” to “rally-point” scoring system on January 1, 2000.
- Current famous professional volleyball tournaments include the highest tournament in South America in Brazil, the highest tournament in Italy, and the highest tournament in Poland in Europe. The V1 League in Japan and the V-League in South Korea are two highly developed professional tournaments in Asia, and all of these professional tournaments generate income through sports betting.
- The three most important international volleyball events are the “Summer Olympics,” the “World Championship,” and the “World Cup.” The “National Volleyball League” planned by the International Volleyball Federation is where the strongest national teams in the world gather to provide exciting matches during the off-season of professional leagues.
Volleyball rules:
- Each team can register 12 players, and 6 players participate in each match, consisting of 3 attackers and 3 defenders. Attackers and defenders are separated by the attack line, and defenders cannot cross the attack line to attack.
- Libero player: can only play as a defender and is not allowed to make any attacking actions above the top of the net.
- Rally-point scoring system: If the receiving team commits a violation, the serving team gets 1 point and continues to serve. If the serving team commits a violation, the receiving team gets 1 point and gains the right to serve.
- In a rotation, each team has only 3 attempts (excluding blocks) to return the ball to the opponent’s court. If they exceed these 3 attempts, the opponent gets 1 point and the right to serve.
- In a rotation, a person is not allowed to hit the ball twice in a row. If they exceed or equal to 2 attempts, the opponent gets 1 point and the right to serve.
- Volleyball matches follow a best-of-five, three-set format:
- Matches are played with a maximum of 5 sets, and the team that wins 3 sets first wins the match. Sets 1-4 are played to 25 points, and if a fifth set is needed, it is played to 15 points.
